Smart Maths – Introduction To Maths With Abacus
The Smart Maths series is a set of four books. These books are for children from LKG to first grade. Although many abacus-based mental calculation courses are flooded in the market, there is no authentic material available in bookstores on the abacus. This book series is an initiative taken by a Bangalore-based mental math education company for the benefit of students. The main advantage of this series is that primary schools and even interested parents can teach children by following the instructions given in the books.
The first book begins with the introduction and the physical meaning of numbers, the representation of numbers on an abacus with many games and puzzles to make learning interesting. After introducing number concepts up to 50, simple addition and subtraction concepts are explained with practice sums. Later combinations in the easy format are clearly explained by defining the tricky problems separately. This ensures that if the child does not have these issues – it’s okay, understanding will come over a period of time – it avoids parental anxiety.
In the other two books, various combinations from +/-9 to +/-1 and built-in combinations were explained with solved examples. Delicate sums were clearly marked. By the end of the series, children will be able to perform all kinds of addition/subtraction up to five two-digit numbers. Mental calculations are built in from the start and this will sharpen youngsters’ imagery skills and help right brain activation.
