When young children exhibit abnormal behavior, it is safe to say that professional consultation is necessary. One can use the Clancy behavior scale or the ADHD test to assess their children for early detection.

Sometimes, however, it may just be a false alarm. I have encountered a few cases in the past. I spoke to a few parents who told me that their two children, ages seven and nine, had learning disabilities and needed professional consultants. Parents have an obligation to provide a loving and disciplined home environment so that their children are ready to learn. When children are ready to learn but do not learn well, the downfall is most likely due to the quality of teaching by teachers.

I was touched by a college professor when he apologized to students who had failed in his class. 40% of students in the class had already failed a midterm exam. He apologized to them and said that his explanations and teaching skills were not good enough. Children are like blank sheets of paper waiting for quality input and motivation from teachers. I often tell parents, in front of their children, that if grades in school don’t improve, we’re to blame. The only condition is that they fully cooperate with us.

In Canada, one in ten students attends a private school, but in Quebec, the ratio climbs to 2.9:10, which is almost triple the average. This large difference shows that parents really trust teachers in private schools more than those in public schools. I have shown appreciation and recognition to many good teachers when some students have shown us quality lessons and assignments. Unfortunately, there are always teachers who cannot answer or are unable to answer more difficult questions. Either they tell the students that they will contact them again later and completely forget about it, or they tell the students that they should be able to solve the questions because they are so easy, thereby masking his inability.
